Rental Policy

Please be aware that our rentals operate on a 24-hour basis. Returns must occur at the same time of day as the initial pickup (e.g., if you pick up the vehicle at 9 am, it should be returned at 9 am). Otherwise, any additional hours beyond the agreed return time will be considered an extra day of rental. However, if you require an extra hour or two, please inquire.

Cancellation Policy

You have the option to cancel your booking up to 48 hours before pickup at no cost. Failure to cancel within 48 hours before pickup and no-shows results in a 50% retention of the total order amount. Kindly note that we can not be held responsible for any changes in exchange rates. /n Changes to your booking are not permitted if there are less than 48 hours until your booking starts. Additionally, once your rental has begun, you cannot shorten its duration. Nonetheless, we will try to accommodate requests to extend your rental based on availability. For any changes to your booking, kindly send us an email.

Email Policy

We reserve the right to respond to emails within 48 hours during busy days.

Age Requirements and Driver's License

Drivers must hold a full license for at least 12 months before the rental date and be at least 20 years old.

Damage Policy

If any damage occurs to the vehicle while it is in the customer‘s possession, an estimate will be provided to determine the repair costs. Please be aware that Iceland Campers may take up to 10 business days to send the final documentation. We need to get the vehicle inspected. Consequently, patience is required on the customer‘s part. Rest assured, the team makes every effort to respond promptly. When a camper sustains damage requiring repair and assessment by a workshop, additional processing costs apply, which are not covered by standard insurance. For each incident, a processing fee of 400 EUR is charged./n The lessee's liability is contingent upon selected insurance options. CDW is mandatory in Iceland, with a liability of up to 3000 EUR. This amount may increase due to insurance limitations or unlawful actions by the lessee. Damages exceeding the deductible will be charged immediately, with any remaining balance refunded to the lessee. Iceland Campers offers assistance and reparations for rental issues reported promptly during the rental period.

Fuel Water and Oil Policy

The rental car is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned in the same condition, with a full tank. If the fuel tank is not full when the lessee receives the vehicle, the campervan shall be returned with the same amount of fuel as when it was received. A €50 administration fee is charged for returning a camper without a full tank. Additionally, the lessee will be charged for the fuel needed to fill the tank. Lessees are responsible for maintaining water and oil levels, with reimbursement for any incurred costs.

Camper Safety and Security System

Lessees are responsible for the safety and security system onboard the camper, which monitors various aspects of the rental. Iceland Campers limits access to this data to ensure privacy and confidentiality.

Road Monitoring

All our campers come with a tracking device for your safety during your Iceland travels. Rest assured, your location remains confidential and will never be shared with any third party.

Road Regulations

Driving off designated roads or marked paths is strictly prohibited. Additionally, 2-wheel drive vehicles (2×4) are not permitted on F-roads (highland roads), including Kaldidalur (road 550), road 570, road 936, road 910, Road 622, or any road marked with a jeep on the www.road.is map. / Only 4-wheel drive vehicles (4×4) are allowed on F-roads (highland roads). However, certain F-roads are off-limits for our 4×4 campers, namely Road 622, F-578, F-337, F-261, F-210, F-233, F-821, F-88, F-910, F-894, and F-980. / For destinations like Landmannalaugar, it's recommended to take routes such as F208 North (road 32 – road F26 – F208) or F225 (road 26 – F225). If opting for F208 South to Landmannalaugar, exercise extra caution. /n When traveling to Þórsmörk, it's advisable to take road 249 – road F-249 route and refrain from crossing the river Krossá under any circumstances. / Crossing rivers on F-roads is entirely at your own risk, and any resulting damage is your responsibility. Violating road restrictions may lead to fines equivalent to your self-risk. These fines do not impact your liability for damages.

You are responsible for staying informed about road conditions, weather forecasts, and general warnings while traveling in Iceland. For detailed information on weather and road conditions, please refer to www.safetravel.is

Smoking

Smoking in our campers is strictly prohibited. All campers are smoke-free, with a fine of €300 for violations.

Other

The lessee is prohibited from using the vehicle for commercial passenger transportation, lending it to others, or subleasing it. Additionally, taking the campervan out of the country is strictly prohibited and treated as theft, potentially resulting in criminal charges.

Iceland Campers Service

Shuttle Service

For our customers arriving at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), we provide complimentary transportation to our office during our regular hours of operation. Additionally, during these hours, we offer pick-up services anywhere in the Keflavik area. You have up to 48 hours before the rental to choose a transportation option. Transfers must be booked with us 24 hours before the rental. When returning the camper, we provide Dropoff services to any location in the Keflavik area. Please note that if you're returning outside our business hours, you'll need to arrange your transportation, such as taking a taxi to your next destination. / There is no additional fee for using our shuttle service, but charges do apply for taxi rides. / Our office hours are from xx-xx.

Vehicle Dropoff

Vehicle pick-up occurs at Iceland Campers offices, and Dropoff always takes place at the exact location. / Before returning the key, kindly gather your belongings, tidy up the space, and dispose of trash.

Vehicle Transport

If the camper requires towing or transportation, a service provider will be arranged, and payments will be made directly between the renter and the service provider. If vehicle pickup is required after damage, a charge of 3 EUR per kilometer driven or a minimum of 200 EUR will apply. / Exclusions from insurance coverage:

  • Misfuelling (gasoline in a diesel engine or diesel in a gasoline engine)
  • Getting the camper stuck (in the sand, snow, or mud)
  • Draining the starter battery
  • Driving through water or rivers resulting in water damage
  • Driving on closed roads (marked red)
  • Driving off-road
  • Damage to the chassis and all underside parts of the vehicle (including the rocker panel)

General Information

Reservation

To secure your booking, we require a valid credit card number, expiration date, and email address. Bookings made via wire transfer are subject to confirmation upon receipt and verification of payment. /n Our booking system will promptly inform you of camper availability. If you cannot find a vehicle at your desired time, please contact us for assistance. We will confirm your booking request via email within 24 hours. /n Requests for reservation changes must be submitted via email.

Rental Period

The minimum rental period is three days or 74 hours.

Payment

At the start of the rental period, we will collect your credit card information for insurance purposes, even if a voucher covers the rental cost. The name on the credit card must match the booking name. This information may be used to cover additional charges, such as extra insurance, parking fines, damages, fuel refills, or other costs related to the use of the rental vehicle. / Please note that a credit card matching the booking name is always required for insurance. We do not accept debit cards/pre-paid credit cards or AMEX.

Administration Fees and Fines

  • Should the camper be returned more than one hour after the designated Dropoff time specified in the reservation, a fee of €100 per hour will be incurred for each hour of delay.
  • A €35 administration fee applies to any traffic violations handled by the Iceland Campers staff, such as parking, tunnel, speeding, or other violations.
  • A €50 administration fee is charged for returning a camper without a full tank. Additionally, the lessee will be charged for the fuel needed to fill the tank.
  • A penalty fee of €100 is levied for returning excessively dirty campers requiring special cleaning.
  • A fine of €704 is incurred for refueling a camper with the wrong fuel and driving with it.
  • A fine of €1305 is imposed for driving non-F-road classified campers on F-Roads (highland roads). It is strictly forbidden to drive 2x4 campervans on F-Roads.
  • Some roads are restricted for our 4x4 campers, including Road 622, F-578, F-337, F-261, F-210, F-233, F-821, F-88, F-910, F-894, and F-980. Should you drive on these F roads, there will be a charge of €1305.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the campers, and a €300 fine is applied for smoking inside the camper.

Tax

All prices include local value-added tax (VAT) of 24%.

Rental Agreement

Lessee Responsibilities (Customer):

Acknowledgment: The lessee acknowledges receipt of this lease agreement and agrees to its terms. /n The renter is obligated to bring back the vehicle and all its accessories, such as tires and tools, in the same state as they were at the time of rental. /n Vehicle Return: The lessee is obligated to bring back the vehicle along with all its accessories, such as tires and tools, in the same state as they were at the beginning of the rental when the car was received, barring normal wear and tear, by the specified return date and location. The lessee is responsible for returning the camper in the following condition:

  • All accessories, including tires and tools, should be in the same condition as received, except for normal wear due to use.
  • The interior, including plastics, seats, mattress, and kitchen appliances, should be in the same condition as received.

  • Unless otherwise agreed, the camper should be returned to the lessor's premises.
  • The fuel tank should be full unless otherwise agreed. Failure to return the camper with a full tank may result in an additional service fee of €50 in addition to the cost of the missing fuel.
  • The camper should be reasonably clean. If additional cleaning time is required beyond the standard, a cleaning fee of €100 will be charged.
  • We kindly request our customers to:
    • Remove all trash and food from the car.
    • Pack and organize the extra equipment.
    • Clean the cutlery, dishes, pots, and pans after use.
    • Spend 10-15 minutes to tidy up the interior of the camper.
    • Cleaning the outside of the camper is not required unless it is excessively dirty.
Violations:

If the lessee breaches the terms of this agreement or fails to return the vehicle at the agreed-upon time as per the lease agreement or neglects to indicate their intention to extend the lease, the lessor or law enforcement reserves the right to repossess the vehicle without further notice, and at the expense of the lessee. Extending the lease is subject to the lessor's approval. Should the lessee return the vehicle one hour or more after the lease has expired, a fee of 100 EUR per hour will be incurred for each hour of delay.

Careful Handling:

The lessee must handle and drive the vehicle cautiously, limiting driving to named drivers listed in the agreement. The lessee is liable for damages resulting from unauthorized use that contravenes Icelandic law and/or the provisions of this lease, including off-road driving or driving under the influence. The lessee bears responsibility for any damages resulting from using the vehicle, for which the vehicle‘s insurance provider will not offer compensation. This encompasses damages to the vehicle itself and any injuries sustained by passengers due to:

  • Driving off-road, such as on paths, beaches, areas accessible only during low tide, or other unmarked regions.
  • Crossing rivers or watercourses.
  • Intentional acts or gross negligence.
  • Use of intoxicating substances by the driver
  • Violations of Icelandic laws or the terms of this lease
  • riving in snowy or icy conditions
Roads:

It is prohibited to drive rental cars on roads or tracks without road numbers. It is strictly prohibited for passenger cars and 2WD vehicles to travel on roads marked with an 'F' on public maps, including Kjölur (road 35), Dettifoss road east side (road 864), Kaldidalur (road 550), or Jökulshálsleið (road 570). Driving on F-roads is only permitted with a 4x4 camper approved by the lessor for such roads. Failure to comply with this provision empowers the lessor to impose fines on the lessee, equivalent to the self-risk amount specified in the lessor’s price list at any given time. It's important to note that these fines do not affect the lessee's liability for damages. The lessee is responsible for obtaining information on road and weather conditions while traveling and any general warnings.

Incident Reporting:

In case of a collision or accident, the lessee must promptly notify the police and lessor and remain at the scene until police arrival. If the lessee is not at fault for the accident and no cause for the accident is determined, the lessee is accountable for any damage to their vehicle.

Mileage Notification:

The lessee must inform the lessor of any odometer malfunctions during the lease term.

Property Responsibility:

The lessee assumes responsibility for any lost or damaged property left or transported in the vehicle.

Repairs and maintenance:

The lessee does not have permission to undertake modifications or conduct repairs on the vehicle or any of its accessories without the prior consent of the lessor. Failure by the lessee to heed the lessor's notifications for essential maintenance tasks such as oil changes, service inspections, or mandatory vehicle inspections may result in the imposition of a negligence charge by the lessor in accordance with the rates specified in the lessor's price list.

Traffic laws:

The lessee is liable for all parking meter charges, entrance fees, and fines for breaking traffic laws. Additionally, the lessee accepts to pay a €35 processing fee if the lessor has to process the payments.

The lessee agrees to pay:

a deposit equivalent to the estimated rental cost of the vehicle and all costs associated with returning the vehicle to the lessor‘s premises due to the vehicle being left somewhere without supervision, irrespective of the vehicle‘s condition, road conditions, or weather. The lessee is accountable for all expenses associated with transporting the vehicle in the event of damage caused by the lessee.

Deposit and Expenses:

Upon request, the lessee must provide a deposit covering potential expenses and reimburse any incurred costs for vehicle retrieval or traffic violations. The lessor retains the right to levy a charge against the lessee's credit card. This charge may encompass fines incurred by the lessee for traffic violations or notifications sent by the lessor to the authorities regarding such violations, as outlined in the lessor's price list.

Smoking:

The lessee agrees not to smoke in the car. Smoking in our campers is strictly prohibited. All campers are smoke-free, with a fine of €300 for violations for smoking in the vehicle or the smell of cigarettes or other substances.

Other:

The lessee is prohibited from using the vehicle for commercial passenger transportation, lending it to others, or subleasing it. Additionally, the lessee is not authorized to take the campervan out of the country. It is forbidden and will be treated as theft and can result in criminal charges.

Lessor Obligations (Iceland Campers):

Vehicle Supply:

The lessor will deliver the vehicle on time and ensure it meets the agreed specifications.

Malfunction Response:

In the event of vehicle malfunction, the lessor is responsible for fixing the car promptly, subject to lessee consent, or the lessor will provide a comparable replacement.

Agreement Information:

The lessor will inform the lessee about lease terms and obligations.

Traffic Regulation Guidance:

The lessor will educate foreign lessees on Icelandic traffic regulations, banned off-road driving, traffic signs, and road safety. The lessor shall inform the lessee of the dangers of animals on the road.

Usage Limitation Notification:

Any vehicle-use restrictions will be communicated in writing before lease signing.

Insurance Coverage:

The lessor will maintain valid liability insurance for business operations.

Exclusions:

Please be aware that NO insurance covers the following incidents:

  • Misfuelling the vehicle by putting gasoline into a diesel engine or putting diesel into a gasoline engine.
  • Getting the camper stuck in sand, snow, or mud.
  • Accidentally locking the keys inside the camper.
  • Draining the start battery of the camper.
  • Driving into water or rivers resulting in water damage.
  • Driving on closed or impassable roads marked red.
  • Driving off designated roads (off-road driving).
  • Damage to the chassis and all components beneath the car, including the Rocker panel. Kindly show care when driving on gravel roads.
  • Damages to wind-blown doors. Please be careful when opening doors in strong winds.
Mandatory Vehicle Insurance:
  1. Third-party liability insurance is equivalent to the amount stipulated by Icelandic law.
  2. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included in each rental, with a liability of up to 3000 EUR.
Additional Vehicle Insurance Options:
  1. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) includes liability and accident insurance for both the driver and the vehicle's owner. The SCDW reduces your liability to 900 EUR.
  2. Gravel Protection, Tire Protection, Theft Protection, Scratch & Dent Protection, Sand and Ash Protection, and Premium Insurance are also available with varying coverage and zero self-risk.
    1. Gravel Protection: This insurance shields against damage to the windscreen, headlights, body, and paint on the front of the vehicle caused by gravel impact. There is no self-risk involved.
    2. Tire Protection: This coverage handles the cost of repairing or replacing a flat tire if repair is not feasible. All necessary tools for changing a tire are provided with the camper. There is no self-risk.
    3. Theft Protection: This insurance guards against theft if the camper is stolen. However, it does not cover personal belongings.
    4. Scratch & Dent Protection: This insurance covers all scratches and minor dents, such as door dings up to 4×4 cm in size. There is no self-risk.
    5. Sand And Ash Protection: This coverage addresses damages to the vehicle's paint, windows, lights, and components resulting from sand and ash storms. There is no self-risk involved.
    6. Premium Insurance: This comprehensive insurance package includes Theft Protection, Gravel Protection, Sand And Ash Protection, Scratch & Dent Protection, and Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) with no self-risk.
Collision and Damage:
  1. If an accident or crash occurs, your insurance self-risk amount will be charged upfront, and any balance after evaluating the damage will be refunded within 30 days.
  2. Each insurance self-risk applies to one incident only.
  3. If vehicle pickup is required after damage, a charge of 3 EUR per kilometer driven or a minimum of 200 EUR will apply.
Damages Not Covered by CDW or SCDW:
  1. Intentional damage or damage caused by gross negligence.
  2. Damage due to alcohol or substance influence.
  3. Damage due to race driving, war, revolution, or civil unrest.
  4. Damage caused by animals or misfuelling.
  5. Damage from off-road driving, driving on closed roads where vehicle traffic is banned, damage to 2x4 vehicles caused by driving on F-roads, also driving on Kjölur (road 35) or Kaldidalur (550), road 570, road 936, road 910 and Road 622 or damage to 4×4 vehicles caused by driving on roads: 622, F-578, F-337, F-210, F-910 or F-980.
  6. amage from river crossing or any other water damage to the vehicle, damage caused by seawater, and damage due to sand, ash, gravel, or earth material.
  7. Damage to specific vehicle parts or components, such as damage affecting only wheels, tires, suspension, batteries, glass (other than windows), radios, or other parts of the vehicles lost or damaged by theft.
  8. Holes burned into seats, carpets, or mats.
  9. Lessor's loss if the vehicle is stolen.
  10. Damage from driving on rough roads, which impacts the vehicle's transmission, drive system, and other components connected to the chassis, is not covered. This includes damage to the chassis caused by scraping on rough roads due to ridges left by road graders or stones lodged on the road surface or shoulder. Similarly, any damage caused by stones hitting the underside of the vehicle while driving, as well as damage to tires, wheels, or the chassis underneath the vehicle, is the renter's responsibility. General Provisions:

Lease Documentation:

This agreement must be kept in the vehicle at all times.

Written Amendments:

Any changes to lease conditions require written documentation. Legal Jurisdiction: Icelandic law governs lease agreements and related disputes, subject to resolution through designated arbitration committees.

Billing:

The lessee authorizes the lessor to bill for any damages sustained during the rental period up to the insurance liability limit—additionally, the lessee grants permission for the rental company to sign the payment voucher on their behalf.

Privacy Policy:

Our privacy policy ensures that any information collected during your use of this website will only be utilized for the specified purposes and in compliance with Icelandic law nr. 77/2000. The lessee consents to the lessor retaining contact information for marketing endeavors. Iceland Campers is committed to safeguarding visitor information and will not disclose it to third parties without explicit permission except when required by law enforcement. We take measures to secure visitor data from unauthorized access; however, we cannot be held liable if information is unlawfully obtained by third parties.
